Can you share a bit about yourself?
I began my career as a freelance writer at the age of 50 by answering a Craigslist ad to write for a New York magazine, a job I had not a single qualification for. No one was more surprised than me when two of my ideas were accepted. I was hooked from the first interview. That small start led me to interviewing over 150 people from as far away as South Africa, co-owning a magazine, publishing two books, doing author support for a publisher, and being asked to speak at local events. I have also been a book reviewer for over a decade and have dipped my toes into writing poetry.
You are a triple Pursuit author, but did hesitate about being a part of the 3rd book – the Business Edition. Why?
I have first and foremost always considered myself a creative — an artist who uses the written word as my medium. While I have stepped into the role of entrepreneur when I had to, it’s never been a comfortable fit, so I live in denial. Unfortunately, the reality is that if I don’t handle the business side of writing — marketing, promotion, finances, and more — then I will never reach the global audience I dream of. With great hesitation, I have come to embrace the business side of what I do, but I still laughingly refer to myself as The Reluctant Entrepreneur.

Do you have exciting news you’d like to share?
Absolutely. First I want to share that, while this year has been so full it delayed my timeline quite a bit, I have a small eBook launching in the near future: Olio by Marilyn: A Bit of Everything. It is filled with a selection of articles I have written for my blog over the past decade. It will be available for purchase on Amazon, but I will also be offering free download days.
In anticipation of the launch above, I am actively building my email list. Those who sign up will receive a newsletter (bimonthly or quarterly) filled with stories, free content, and exclusive advance notice of free download days for my new eBook. All you need to do is enter your email HERE!

I was also honored to be a part of a photographic series call I AM HER highlighting women’s issues through both group and solo editorial images. It will launch on Sept. 28th at The Beaumont Studios.

Any last words?
First, I give you permission: permission to grow, to make mistakes, to become, and to choose a path that makes your heart sing. You got this. I believe in you.
Second, I hope we can connect with each other on social media, building a strong community of support where we uplift and support each other. My links are below. Be sure to share yours with me.
