As an entrepreneur several times over, and a mother, Dawn Reid loves creating the meaningful, intentional business, ZenWand, with her family.
I guess you can call me a woman who has followed her heart. Over my life, I have experimented with several businesses, finding new passions and getting ever closer to finding my soul’s calling.
I grew up in rural Quebec, and as a child, I worked with my Dad at our family’s apple stand, making pies and jellies. In 1978, when I was 18, I opened a boutique that featured local artisans. Here I found my passion for creating, curating, and heart-centered- business.
I moved to BC, and while raising my children, Morgen, Marylottie, and Jason, I launched a successful business, Kate & Mo Christmas Stockings. In my forties, I guess you can say I woke up. In my dreams, I was gifted the idea for a company called ZenWand to create tools for mindfulness, healing, and meditation. This was quite a new concept for the general public at the time. When my daughter, Marylottie, joined me at ZenWand, we created a fundraiser in memory of her close friend. We started designing and handcrafting gemstone bracelets, researching and learning about the unique healing properties each stone has. Through this Love Project, we were eventually able to put up a gazebo in his memory. We saw that we had tapped into something bigger as we started to receive interest and orders from all over. Many people seemed to understand there was something special about the energy and intention behind these bracelets.
Presently, ZenWand is a successful online retail, wholesale, and fundraising business. I love to see the joy that our bracelets bring to people. When I feel my best and most successful is when I can give back. For this, we created our Just Because program where we are gifting gemstone bracelets to anyone needing a little extra love.
Now at 61, looking back on my life, this I know:
I love working with my family. I love designing and creating. I feel best when I’m following my heart – and I never give up. What brings me the most joy in life is giving and helping someone feel loved. Our world needs more love. I know now that that is my life’s work.
