Denise Dupré, a passionate expressionist abstract artist, paints from a well-grounded, spiritually connected space of love.
Denise Dupré is a ROAM Gallery Artist
Denise was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved to Vancouver at the age of twelve. Her commitment to the arts began in 1991 while taking selected art courses, as well as self-teaching with study and replicating the Masters’ works. Her early paintings were realistic representations of boat and water scenes around Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River.
Wanting to expand the breadth of art-making Denise began to explore abstract painting with its lucidness, immediacy and freedom of expression. A new world of creative interest began with such expressive and sensory aesthetics. A panorama of visual possibilities began to unfold. “I paint because I cannot imagine my life without this developed sense of artistry, honesty, and personal conviction. Painting is very much a part of who I am and what I need to do.”
Denise’s studio is located with a collective of artists occupying warehouse space in Port Moody. With its high trussed ceiling and domed skylight Denise is inspired to paint large bold colorful compositions. “It is here that I dream of painting truly magnificent works as I expand my creative oeuvre.”
Artist Statement:
The abstracts I paint are inspired by the act of painting, of getting to feel the sensory moods of color and the tactile nature of working with paint. Facing a white canvas with paint and brush in hand, forging on with a degree of confidence and a surge of energy abstract painting has enriched a renewed meaning to painting. It has honed within me and set free a spirit of trust, intuition and spontaneity. Abstraction is intuitive expression set upon delicately balanced sensitivities derived within the framework of one’s own root base of cognitive integrity and determined intentions.
I am rather content being a rugged individualist in the studio, self-directed and authoritative while inviting playful muses into the uncharted arena of artistry.
My art-making is inspired by masters such as Matisse, Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Alexander Calder, Willem de Kooning and Joan Mitchell.
