A dedicated Realtor who believes in the Power of Positive Thought
As I watched my daughter on stage at McMaster University, I fought hard to keep the tears from running. My only child was openly expressing herself with grace and confidence. I had released my desires to the Universe, and the Universe delivered. The life and success I wished and worked for came to fruition. I believe that what you put out there does indeed come back! After many years of hardship, our lives were finally in a place of safety and abundance; we were not just existing anymore, we were living meaningful lives.
As a child, I moved from home to home, and country to country, finally returning to Tanzania, my country of origin, at the age of eighteen, because of the civil unrest in Congo. Prior to the war, my living arrangements alternated between parents and sometimes others. These decisions were made for me, not by me. I never had control over my life, and it was all that I wanted. At twenty-four, I married a man that was the polar opposite of me. A year later, after giving birth to our child, we got divorced, and I embarked on a new journey. My late mother was my sole support system during those trying days, and even though it was exactly what we needed, I still yearned for the freedom and independence to make my own choices and decisions for myself and my child.
As a single mother, at 27, I applied to move to Canada from Tanzania. Although many were skeptical of my chances to get into Canada, I knew this was the ONE thing I had to do and could do. In fact, my thoughts remained positive and firm towards this new direction. To my wonderful surprise, with nothing but a high school diploma, my interview was waived and I was given the opportunity to come to Toronto! My new adventures began with learning how to drive, to cook, to raise my 4 year old, to make it through winters, to make my own decisions, and to survive here without any other family support.
Through the tough days and lonely nights, I maintained a strong sense of positivity and kept my inner self grounded. I have no regrets; the experiences made me stronger, more resilient, and taught me the life skills that I could then impart to my daughter. I was able to give her the opportunities, the freedom, the choices, and the life we both deserved.
When asked how I did it… I simply say that I took it one day at a time, but I also never stopped manifesting the life I wanted for myself and for my child. I looked at the present and envisioned the future; I released everything else in the past.
Over the years, I have learned to maintain a positive attitude, harness my intuition, allowing my inner voice to be louder and to treat myself and others with respect. These traits allow me to take responsibility for the choices I make, giving me a sense of freedom in doing so. I absolutely LOVE what I do for a living because it allows me to help people through a tough and very important financial process, and I get to share what I have learned with my clients in the field of Real Estate.
Why Real Estate?
It all started in 2008. I had just graduated as a Registered Massage Therapist with a consistent income and good credit. I was introduced to a Mortgage Broker who had a team of professionals working under the same roof. Therefore, I hired his lawyer and his Realtor.
I was super excited since Imaan and I were outgrowing the basement and she was ready to experience her own bedroom above ground level!
We started house hunting and found just the right place!
I fell in love with it instantly.
The Realtor asked me to sign a waiver for the finance condition since the mortgage was being approved by someone she knew and worked with closely. I was nervous but TRUSTED them. However, on the close date, which also happened to be my daughter’s birthday, I was told the mortgage fell through!
My options?
1) Get the full amount from a private lender at a 14% interest rate and have to renew the contract every six months or
2) Lose the $5000 deposit to the Sellers and hope they didn’t take me to court. $5000 for me at that time was like GOLD – I worked so hard to save up and now I lost it all.
That day, I wondered how many people like me have been caught up with shady people who call themselves “professionals.” It was years later that I decided to pursue the path. It felt right – I can relate to the feeling of making a huge decision and wanting to be in the right hands.
Everyone knows that real estate transactions are one of the most important financial experiences you can have, and they can be extremely stressful.
My extensive experience with people both in life and in my career has taught me to work with fun, freedom, and ease. Over the years, I have come to understand that it is not just about the bottom line or the structure of the house. It is more so about how individuals and families are impacted through the process of buying and selling real estate.
