In life, work, and the pursuit of true happiness, my mantra is “embrace the mystery.” From the space of the unknown, all things are possible. It is only when we have no preconceived idea of what ‘should’ happen, that anything CAN happen. As Nelson Mandela said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
Delving intothe unknown takes courage and curiosity, but it’s also where the magic happens. I believe life is an adventure, not a package tour. Answering our call to adventure requires facing uncertainty and taking risks. “We will only understand the miracle of life fully when we allow the unexpected to happen,” as author Paulo Coehlo says.
For example, when I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro at age fifty-five, I really didn’t know if I would reach the summit. No one does, until they are on the mountain. Yet, the uncertainty of the outcome did not sway me; it fuelled me. Each day, grounded in the present moment I embraced the mystery, not the fear, and ultimately reached the 19,340-foot summit feeling “spent,” yet exhilarated, and wondering what other big dream I might accomplish next.
Few things bring me greater joy than witnessing my students and clients navigate uncertainty without it stopping them from creating their “wildest dreams,” as intuition, higher wisdom, and “Ah-ha moments” show up to guide them. Without needing to know how everything will unfold, uncertainty transforms to clarity. If you always knew how things were going to turn out, you would miss all other possibilities, brilliant innovations, and MAGIC along the way!
