Currently based in Vancouver, Julie operates Julie Heather Photography where she captures large-scale events and intimate moments alike.
Raised on a farm in a fishing village, and just like a storybook, Prince Edward Island played host to all your childhood dreams. Red sand beaches and a sky so full of stars you’d lose count.
I always knew photography was in the plan and while I love “home,” I chose to attend college in Ottawa and then relocate to Toronto to focus on building my career.
With additional education and employment in communications and events, sports media, sales, and of course, photography, relationships were created that offered invites to some wonderful celebrations over the years. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing leaders of companies and countries, celebrities and athletes, cancer warriors, and even an astronaut at events for the Juno’s, NBA, CBC Sports, and Golf Canada, to name a few. My work has created opportunities for travel from coast to coast and around the world. As a massive sports fan and lover of the arts, this is an absolute dream.
A favourite part of photography is the honour of being invited to someone’s most important day – capturing those special moments with family and loved ones, attending charitable fundraisers and celebrations, playing comedian and cheerleader all at once. Laughter and tears shared with friends and strangers. Oftentimes, you leave a gathering so full of love that you feel like you’re floating.
Photography also allows me the opportunity to empower others. Reminding people to be comfortable in loving the skin they’re in and witness them rediscover the joy in their smile. I experienced childhood epilepsy, discovered aggressive polyps in my early thirties, and have lived with psoriasis for much of my adult life and these conditions taught me valuable lessons in self-love.
Several work opportunities brought me to BC and, finding myself craving the ocean waves again, I eventually made the move. Though rebuilding business proved laborious, the experience was a humble reminder of why I remain so devoted to my photography career. If you’ve ever witnessed me working, you know it’s not a job – but a passion. When you find the thing that makes you soar, you just need to spread your wings – and fly. And I’ll be there to capture it all.
