My family looked well dressed, pristine, and polished from the outside. Inside it was riddled with generations of abuse, addiction, and trauma that, like a family heirloom, we continued to pass on to those we loved. I, too, fell into this endless cycle. I knew deep inside me, even as a very little girl, this was not the life I was meant for, or that I chose. I often found refuge in nature, playing for hours at a time in the forest, picking plants, and making potions. I was also perpetually in trouble for doing this as I loved to mix anything, I could get my hands on!
In the turmoil of my childhood, I found helpers the people like my aunt and uncle who I could truly be myself around. We all have those people the ones who truly show up and shape who we will become. They are those special people you can entrust with your wild ideas or far-fetched pursuits, but most of all, you can trust them with your heart. They teach us to think outside the box and to believe in ourselves. They were my teachers, my realization I had worth and strength in moments that hope didn’t look like an option. When happiness just looked like a sunny place across the street I would never live. I knew I had to break this cycle, and with the help, I left home at the age of fifteen.
In that time, I have known hunger, extreme poverty, and in many moments defeat in my pursuits of success, education, relationships, and creating the life I want to live. Like many of us who lead with our hearts, I fall very short, and continue to, but I know amongst the chaos, I can return to nature and to passing on the teachings and good nature of those helpers in my life. My work and who I am today are governed by these principles; that it is important to create a safe loving space for people to freely express themselves, and to use nature as medicine to heal. I have since created my business which encompasses this approach and I work with clients and to create natural healing solutions. My potions have now evolved into healing formulas.
