If you could give your past self some advice, what would you tell you?
Advice for my past, and future self, as well as to all my readers, is to just LISTEN. Listen to others but most importantly listen to yourself. I am convinced we all have an inner sense of knowing what is right, (or wrong) for us. Quiet the noise of the outside world and give yourself time. Time to hear that intuitive voice and time for the right path to emerge. You will know it when you see it.
When you first started your career, how did you know you were ready and what made you start?
For me, being ready is a relative thing. Clarity comes from action, not thought. It is in the doing that you find your readiness and chance favors the prepared so my strategy has always been to be prepared, be flexible, and to not be afraid to change your course if needed. This is not to say abandon your original plan, but as you receive more feedback on your practices, adjust, add or delete as necessary to keep moving forward.
What or who has been your greatest influence in business?
I am always looking for inspiration from our world thought leaders, but personally I would credit my parents with being my greatest influence in all areas of my life, including business. The way I was raised is what gives me the confidence and tenacity to succeed. I was taught that I could do anything I put my mind too and my success was up to me. That nothing is out of reach and no obstacle is too big. I rarely have an idea that I feel is beyond my grasp. I work hard, I do the leg work, I prepare, and I succeed. It’s how I was raised.
What is your number one business goal to accomplish this year?
This year I have so many things in the works that I would like to accomplish. It’s a mixed bag of delight! Covid has necessitated most workshops, formally given in person to be delivered online, so come January the full schedule will be published and open for registration. Workshops include both those in the Education field, as well as those dealing with Strata Management. A few writing projects and publishing objectives in the works, in addition to a new teaching/learning centre being developed. A busy and fantastic year ahead!
What do you have going on that you’d like to share?
Currently in the works are two separate resource books for those struggling with common disorders that we are seeing increasingly often in the education field, such ADHD, ASD, ODD, etc. The resource books are not only for the parents of children exhibiting these disorders, but also for the adults, and their partners, experiencing these disorders as well. We are seeing more and more of these disorders increasing in all age groups, and at both ends of the spectrum there is extreme difficulty in learning to navigate these waters.
In addition to the resource books, I am opening a teaching centre for people struggling with these disorders. The centre will be a place where individualized programs will be created and practiced, as well as a place for educators (and parents) who wish to learn practical applications for working with students that struggle in a classroom environment.
And finally, a third book to add some lightness and fun, because, Wow…our world has been heavy lately!!! The third book is centered around bringing some peace and light on a daily basis to our lives. Each chapter has a separate intention with some wisdom and humor.
I love meeting new people!
