“Is this loving?” This is a question I ask myself in every decision, thought, event, relationship, and experience. Every choice has the power to leave us feeling either nourished or drained. “Loving” means we fill our own cups and plug our bodies, minds and souls with nourishment. This is how I stay positive, fuelled and disciplined. And this is how I have the energy and drive to support and motivate others in their fitness and wellness journeys!
It wasn’t always this clear. Even as a fitness professional I had chronic pain for years. I was doing all of the right things, from a good diet and exercise to what I thought was self-care and rest. But something wasn’t right. Feeling trapped in my situation, I carried on with the show, suppressed thoughts, people-pleased and put others’ needs before my own. I was drained. My body kept trying to tell me and I was at a breaking point.
In 2019 I was diagnosed with an inflammatory arthritis condition. Through this, I found the courage to surrender, fall apart and be seen. Despite a divorce, pandemic, moving & starting a new business, I knew I was on my journey to happiness and alignment. Meditation, self-love, gratitude and community were (and still are) part of my daily practice. I went from drained and encumbered to whole and unencumbered.
I learnt that movement is life, exercise is my hero, and personal training embodies nourishment. I am now running an independent fitness training company that offers 30-minute private or semi-private in-person or virtual training. With evidence-based behavioural change development around lifestyle and nutrition, I assist in elevating others’ lives through body composition, energy or overall wellness. Clients go from feeling languorous on to their own personal renaissance! By being in service to others, I feel I am on the path of purpose.
Relying on this type of community for support is such an important pillar for health. These meaningful connections (client and trainer) can have a lasting impact on people’s lives. People want to feel seen, heard and understood by their coach. In my experience, It’s primarily the relationship that elicits a client’s commitment to change.
When you listen to your own needs first, people get you at your best. And, when you shine, everyone around you is illuminated. The reciprocity is magical! I want to encourage you to cut out what’s not feeling right, and say YES to the loving when it feels like a match! Choose gratitude. It is up to you to see the good in every day. And be kind to yourself and proud of who you are. You are you, and that is your superpower. I think this plants the seed for your pursuit of happiness!
