In my pursuit of happiness and success, my greatest lesson has been balance. Whether it’s a balanced diet, relationship, or spending habits, balance has held a key role in my journey.
Many facets of our lives are centred around this theme. Anatomically, at the core of who we are as humans, balance gives us the ability to maintain control over our bodies. Biologically, a balanced ecosystem allows us to sustain life on earth. Emotionally, balance gives us the ability to form meaningful interpersonal and intrapersonal connections. Mentally, balance allows us to freely navigate through the ups and downs of life.
I seek to inspire and empower the people around me to live their life as authentically and as bravely as possible by fully embracing new experiences, most of which I owe to my travels abroad. Travel has become an integral part of my journey to fulfillment and with it, comes excitement and sometimes fear. One of my favourite motivational quotes by Susan Jeffers is,
“Feel the fear and do it anyways.”
Susan Jeffers
Sometimes I find fear to be paralyzing, which can lead to things like creative block, perfectionism, and stagnation. My secret sauce to overcoming these crippling feelings consists of three things: self-awareness, self-care, and self-improvement. Collectively, these encapsulate my favourite mantra, give yourself grace.
I’ve learned that this can show up in many forms. Grace can look like journaling my introspective thoughts. Grace can look like curling up with my favourite cup of tea. Grace can also look like getting my body moving through disciplined workouts. I’ve learned along the way that being kind to myself isn’t always the easiest thing to do, it means doing what’s necessary to foster growth.
I have stumbled at least once in all aspects of my life. Each adversity has led me to a deeper understanding of my strengths: empathy, intellect, relationship building, the pursuit of excellence, and harmony. I’ve been able to flex these skills having dabbled in various professional roles including shift management in a high-paced restaurant, Style Advisor in evolving retail environments, and currently working in a tech start-up as a Learning & Development Facilitator.
As rewarding as this professional growth has been, it has been accompanied by personal growth patterns in both my modelling career and as a new small business owner. After all, it’s all about balance.
