One of the greatest gifts in this world is the gift of inspiration. When someone inspires other people, they spread sparks of enlightenment through their words and actions.
I have been so deeply blessed, for so many long years, to receive countless messages in which people thank me sincerely for inspiring them. They have seen my speeches and watched my interviews; they have witnessed my devastating losses and my enduring strength. They have seen the bold risks I have taken, and the peaceful and essential activism I have engaged in, and they tell me that I inspire them.
They share with me the work they have done, the projects they have launched, the laws they have changed. I hear beautiful stories of people from around the world — some imprisoned, some in political office, some in business, some among the many millions in our global rallies and protests against inhumane and unjust anti-cannabis laws — and they tell me of the way I inspired them. They took lessons from my countless appearances, they educated officials with the knowledge I have shared, and they took brave steps to implement change and help make the world a better place.
Beyond becoming inspired and enlightened themselves, they have in turn inspired others. And that is one of the greatest gifts of all: to hear from fellow human beings that they have had their lives improved and uplifted through the simple magic of inspiration. The spark of passion, the blooming of compassion, the drive that ignites an engine within our hearts and minds — that is inspiration. The courage to carry on when others step back, the quiet pride and honour of being strong when others need support, the creativity and ingenuity that comes bursting forth from within — that is inspiration.
When I am inspired by others it feels like I’ve been touched by a bright light that ignites a fire within me. And when I am told that I have inspired someone else, it is like feeling the warmth of that growing and eternal light. To know that you can change the world just by being someone who inspires… that in itself is inspirational too. Keep sparking up those fires!
