If you could give your past self some advice, what would you tell you?
Self-talk is very important to reassess and reflect each and every day. If my past self could meet up with my present self, I would give this advice. Learn to love yourself above all. Through challenges and losses, I have learned to cherish the time I have with my loved ones and people I care about. Never take that for granted.
When you first started your career, how did you know you were ready and what made you start?
I was excited for my future. I was an athlete, a successful student, and chosen as the Valedictorian of my graduating class. I had decided that I wanted to follow my heart and study a respectful profession where I would be helping people and learn to grow. It was at this moment, seemingly in a blink of an eye, that my world changed forever. I became a young mother; for this, I will always feel blessed. Life has taught me many times to be resilient and accepting. In these moments, we learn about ourselves and our true purpose in life. Although challenging and scary at times, being a mother solidified how much a career in helping others was perfectly suited for me. I wanted to be someone that was inspiring, interesting, and to be of help to others. All of my careers have made an impact on people, and I’m forever grateful for making a difference in their lives. The reward for me has been the smiles and the appreciation I received from the people I’ve touched.
What or who has been the greatest influence in your personal journey?
The greatest influencing person on my journey has been Oprah Winfrey. I watched her as a young woman and admired her honesty, strength, and commitment as I weathered many storms as a child and then as a young single mother. Oprah’s honesty showed she had overcome adversity, and this really resonated with me. She has been able to inspire so many people because she believed in herself and the goodness in everyone. She is a positive “Impact Maker” who empowers others by her support and her unending generosity. The passion she has for what she believes in and creates is undeniably authentic! She shares my belief that you can become the highest and greatest vision of yourself; because you become what you believe!
What is your number one personal goal to accomplish this year?
I would love to learn how to play the guitar! My family’s love of music surrounded me as a child and still brings me happiness, joy, and relaxation. It feeds my soul, and at the end of a busy day, it allows me to unwind and feel centered. Music makes my heart sing and doing more of what we love is the goal we all should accomplish in the days ahead.
What do you have going on that you’d like to share?
Finally, I have found true love and a beautiful life with a wonderful man. We enjoy many similar interests, including his family farm. You can find me on the weekends driving the tractor, feeding, and chasing livestock. We give vaccinations and assist with calving. This is the place that brings me peace, and I appreciate the hard work, which is so gratifying and tranquil.
