It’s not the path of resistance, rather the path of true fulfillment within your own identity, no matter what arises in life, creating a steady balance between tranquility and expansion daily in my new existence.
I awoke out of ICU at thirty-three; a true gift of a “life – after death.” My marriage had been over for years to me, my interior design business office staff were now working without me there, down to 93 lbs, hair falling out, and the list goes on. I felt that I was a shadow, standing there alone, that no one else understood, as hard as they tried.
Working with the top neurologists and epileptologists in Canada, they found three intertwined brain tumors in areas of the temporal lobe. That area of the brain where they are located operates cognitive functions speech, reading, thinking words, and memory. I had a rushed craniotomy brain surgery. During this process, I had three strokes. I remember they asked me to move my right leg and I wasn’t moving anything on that side of my body. I came out of ICU with a partially shaved head, areas of my brain removed, the right side of my face drooping, hardly any mobility, memory, or speech. I didn’t even know my dogs’ names anymore. I knew something had changed while lying in the hospital wondering if I would recover. But I believed.
It was a spiritual awakening. Five and a half years of recovery learning to walk, talk, write, and basic functionality in a new way I never could have imagined even if I saw it. I have newfound gratitude in my life. Today I am healed in a new light. Running, training hard, incredible international design work, and I do remember the dog’s name now! From the minute my feet touch the ground in the morning, I thank the Universe for my presence. I never gave up. It is possible that I still forget things or take moments to grasp a word; years of memories are probably gone for good, but I am here, and I have no sadness on that front. None.
Today I am single, spiritually grounded, and happier than I ever imagined. I work on incredible design projects around the world, train daily, eat clean and live minimally. This is my path and mine alone. I know my worth, my boundaries, and I’m making it all happen.
