Curiosity about the human body drives Karen Angelucci’s passion to embolden herself and clients to live, move and feel better in their body.
My body and yours too were designed to move, I like to refer to my body as my motor home that takes me where my heart desires.
I didn’t always feel this way about my body but my heart’s desire over the course of my 67 years has been to be curious, understand and develop skills to support my body physically, emotionally, and nutritionally.
This desire was first fuelled by my personal health needs and then became the catalyst for my career as a body-centered practitioner and health creation influencer.
The emotional turmoil I grew up with combined with injuries from falls and genetic nutritional predispositions have led me on my health path and guided me to understand how physical, emotional and nutritional aspects of my health are the keys to wellbeing.
You too have choices in these three areas of your life, the difficulty is not being educated enough about your own personal health needs in order to make good choices that support your health, happiness, and fulfillment in life.
Stopping yourself from moving to not feel the pain and prevent tissue damage is a smart thing to do for an interim period of time but fearing moving for extended time inhibits the body’s innate healing and return to health. Unfortunately, many people are stuck in the not-moving stage as a result of not knowing what to do about the pain from traumas, injuries, surgeries, or fear of further hurting themselves. Or are frustrated because of not knowing who to go to and then becoming stiffer and sorer making it harder to move. Band aiding symptoms with medications that don’t solve the problem can create anxiety because of thinking you’ll have to live with the problem forever can also be paralyzing. I know these reasons from my own experience of healing and working with clients.
Don’t forget the common phrase for aches and pains is “IT’S JUST OLD AGE”. I love that my 87-year-old client came in fuming and telling me she was not going to listen to others saying to stop doing activities she loves because of her age. Yes, she has aches and pains as we all can have resulting from past incidents. I explained to her how you can have degeneration that develops over time in areas of your body that are vulnerable, and this can occur at any age. The longer you leave symptoms the more compensation and degeneration occurs in your body…so it’s best to attend to your body sooner rather than later.
Client aged 87 started Pilates at age 71. Mindset about your health matters and healing from the inside out can happen at any age.
Me at age 42, I had to overcome my fear of a past injury to finally be able to do this exercise.
Me today at age 67 still being able to do the same exercise because of foundational, functional, aligned movement practices and health choices that keep me moving, feeling, and living well in my body.
Your body is your birthright. Life is precious, love and care for your body physically, emotionally, and nutritionally for the health of you now and at any age.
