Danielle is the top-performing Realtor® in her market, mother of a hilarious and witty 4-year-old, one half of a dynamic duo, and living her best life, with gratitude, in the glorious Coastal Mountains of BC.
From a young age, I had big plans, big dreams. I was going to leave my mark on the world! I wanted to be a lot of things; a veterinarian, an environmental lawyer, a sociologist, an activist, maybe a politician… but “real estate agent” was never on my list.
I did not identify with the stereotypical agents you saw on TV. You know the ones; the sleazy salesman, the high-rolling agents on reality shows, or the made for tv movie variety, shallow, part-time agent/bored housewife. So, when I fell into the profession by chance, it took me a long time to come to terms with the difference between how pop culture portrayed people in my profession and reality. Let’s be honest, I still cringe a little when someone introduces me as a real estate agent – knowing that the stereotypes exist, and some people still believe them.
I have always been a people person. I wear my heart on my sleeve, I am not particularly thick-skinned, and I care a little too deeply what others think. I am not financially driven. I hate small talk, and I love learning what truly makes a person tick. Reflecting on this makes me realize why this career is such a natural fit. I become invested in my clients’ outcomes early on. I love to help people. My clients’ goals are practically as important to me as they are to them, and this requires no effort on my part – it is simply how I am wired.
So, here I am leaving my mark; not in the big ways I anticipated, but in important ways, nonetheless. Sometimes all it takes is a shift of perspective to realize that the little things have a large and cascading effect on other individuals and their future. You can have a meaningful impact on others’ lives and the world in ways you could not have predicted, and it does not always have to be grand gestures. Often the seemingly insignificant and mundane has the most influence. A huge step out of my comfort zone landed me in a career that has been more rewarding than I could have imagined.
