JoAnn Fowler is an entrepreneur, an Emmy nominated makeup artist, and the founder of Sappho New Paradigm Cosmetics – challenging the patriarchy every step of the way.
The more I live this life the less I know I know.
There are times in my life that I have had the seemingly right answers to the right questions.
There are times in my life that I have not even known that I need to ask a question in the first place.
There are times I am proud of myself, my actions and my reactions.
There are times I fall woefully short and I feel shame.
And the path is never linear.
Rather it ebbs and flows, and the goal becomes to stay vigilant to stress and to strive for kindness, to myself and others.
I once went to a talk that the Dali Lama gave, he answered a question of how he deals with his anger towards the Chinese in Tibet and he said, “I meditate at 3 a.m. every day for 4 hours – I take all the anger in and I turn it to love and put it out.”
You could hear a pin drop – everyone was in awe. And then he said “And some days it works, and others it doesn’t”. We do the best we can with the skills and knowledge we have, and we know that change is necessary.
I strive to be a better student.
Happiness comes to me when I feel purposeful, when I am being of service, when I am creating.
My company is my apology to the next generation.
It is my intention to leave a legacy of transparency, authenticity, fallibility, vulnerability, creativity, equality, sustainability and ultimately hope.
For the good of all.
“Walk confidently in the direction of your dreams and live the life you imagine, and you will meet with success unexpected in common hours”
– my version of Thoreau’s longer statement
