Debra Bromley is a unique soul – an entrepreneur, a landscaper, a sports enthusiast, a friend, and a dreamer.
My life has been filled with strong passions – some easy, some challenging. While I have not made lifelong careers out of all of them, I can say that I followed my heart and tried them all, even the ones that may not have been conventional for a woman.
Growing up, I had compelling desires to play ice hockey, football, surf, and ride motorcycles – not necessarily the average female activities. I was determined and ventured into all of them. I also had a love for acting and found myself in at least one stage production.
Graduating from university was a dream of mine that came to life with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UBC. That led to running my own landscaping business, which has gone on now for thirty-five-plus years. I find myself more passionate about landscaping every day. I love being an entrepreneur. A few years ago, I was able to expand my business into the U.S., – a lifelong ambition of mine coming true.
In amongst it all, I was blessed to have had three daughters, all born at home with midwives. My visions growing up never left me. I told my cousin in California not long ago that even today at the age of fifty-five, I still have the same fantasy of moving to California. So many wonderful memories were made there over the years. Throughout everything, my greatest joys have been spirituality and friendship. I have been very fortunate to have had such close friends to laugh with. I believe my best friend was truly a gift from God.
I have heard that I have been a mentor to people. I hope this is true in the sense that I have helped them, but most of all, I hope that I have been a friend to them. There is nothing like the feeling when you see people look inside their hearts and follow their passions – tremendous inspiration.
