Carmen Vars is a model and talent agent, freelance writer, and creative director with a big heart for both fur and skin people.
Carmen Vars is a fashion industry veteran in Canada. Entering the industry in her teens as a model, she worked for 16 years in all areas of print, runway and commercials while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Communications and a Diploma in Professional Writing and Journalism. She has worked as a freelance writer for many years, citing her mentors Virgina Leeming and Valerie Casselton at the Vancouver Sun for giving her a break into the world of feature news writing. Eventually she settled in Vancouver where she has worked as a Model Agent and Scout for over two decades. Her love of people and creativity have kept her engaged in the ever changing and at times crazy-making world of fashion. In recent years she has added “Creative Director” to her stack of hats, producing and directing fashion editorials for magazines worldwide. Carmen utilizes the power of gratitude daily and always remembers to find humour and lessons in times of adversity.
Her favorite mantras include one that she made into a 3×5 foot painting: “Om Mani Padme Hum”.
Another one, which helps her go to sleep at night, borrowed from meditation practice: “I am the Universe, and the Universe is me.” Or in a nutshell, the infinite “I AM”.
