Dianne Watts is a corporate board executive and former politician who has found her role in supporting and empowering women.
I have held many titles along the way, from a businesswoman, CEO, Board Director, City Councillor, Mayor, Member of Parliament, Political Contributor to name a few. However, these are just titles; they are what I do, not who I am, and certainly not what defines me. A strong sense of self, a strong sense of purpose, and being true to my core values are what defines me. I have been a Buddhist for over thirty years, and each day I strive to be my most authentic self. Say what you mean – and mean what you say!
There is no doubt in my mind that the most difficult times in my life have taught me the greatest life lessons and have been a catalyst for immense personal growth. I also know that you do not walk down the road in life on your own. Many people have been alongside me, some I did not care for, some who were very aggravating, and others whose kindness and love have kept me going.
No matter what role people play, there is always an opportunity to learn life lessons, and sometimes the people who make us the craziest are our greatest teachers! And, I certainly have had a few of those!!
It has been very important for me to understand and reflect on what I create and manifest in my life because I am creating my life story. However, we all have things that happen in life that we do not have control over. This is why we cannot lose sight of the fact that everyone has a life story; some more difficult than others, and this is where compassion and empathy come into play.
I believe so strongly that we need to support each other, empower each other, and work collectively to ensure the next generation of young women feel loved and supported. Especially the young girls and young women who are at risk and who are struggling. As women, I believe we have a very important role to play using the lessons and the tools we have developed to affect change within ourselves and the world.
