Andréa Fehsenfeld is an award-winning author and TV producer and a passionate advocate for all things creative.
What has been your favourite experience you love to share?
My transition into writing! A lifelong book lover, in my forties I decided to honour my storytelling desires. For six months, I wrote one hour every day until I had the first draft of a novel. When I started writing, I didn’t realize how my TV producer experience (video editing, story structure, marketing) would mesh so beautifully. I truly love the marketing side of writing: tapping into what makes people tick and ultimately, buy products.
Writing also taught me important lessons in work/play balance. It’s easy to lose myself in an arena I’m so passionate about and learning to come up for air is harder than writing!
What makes an opportunity exciting to you – in business or in life?
I love entrepreneurial spirit and flair. Any opportunity or person who can infuse me with motivation is exciting. Self-employed since I was twenty, prior to my production and writing career, I spent seven years in finance. I’m naturally curious about the fascinating world of business, trading, and the financial markets. There are great lessons to be learned from the best business minds on the planet, and I’m always seeking inspiration from trailblazers to help me achieve my goals.
On the creative front, I wrote and released an original song as a companion piece for my second novel. I’m a huge music fan but had never written a song before. This pushed me into unchartered territory. One of the most exciting things I’ve ever done!
What has been the greatest shift in your career or life and how did you navigate through it?
I left a long-term relationship in 2020, moving during the height of the Covid crisis. It’s always heartbreaking to leave someone, but it’s more important to recognize when you’ve stagnated.
This major shift forced me to reframe myself and re-tap into my powers. Looking back a year later, it’s been nothing but positives. My second novel is an award-winner, I had one of my most profitable years as a TV producer, and my creative juices have run at peak performance.
By acknowledging and addressing my own habits and tendencies, I navigated through a potentially dark period of my life with all lights blazing forward.
What are you up to right now that people should know about?
2021 is a continuation of self-discovery and challenging myself. With my writing career taking off, I’m expanding into the romance genre and will publish my first book of a trilogy later this year under a nom de plume. I’ll maintain my Andréa Fehsenfeld brand, publishing upmarket fiction, and cross-market between author brands.
I’m also creating a portfolio of scripts for TV and film and the goal is to land an agent at the end of the year.
