Kym Klopp is an entrepreneur and environmental activist.
From a very early age, I had a passion and curiosity for all living things. Animals, people, the planet, whatever it may be! These passions and curiosities acted as the headlights on my journey through life as I ventured through many careers looking for the one that made the most sense for me. After years of working in the downtown district, I recognized that my passion lay within my neighbourhood. I wanted to live, work and contribute to my community in a positive and meaningful way.
When my dog died, I took a month off of work. This life-changing experience heightened my curiosity and passion for supporting those who surrounded me. It allowed me to open my eyes to recognize that my purpose in life is helping others so that we as a community first, then society can work toward creating a place that is supportive of all things living!
At this point, I realized my next step in life was to open my own shop in the Toronto neighbourhood I live, with the environment in mind. I wanted to offer alternatives to conventional products that we use in our homes and on our bodies. I aimed to educate my community on the harmful, yet conventional products that were out there, and illustrate the benefits of making the change to living a more sustainable lifestyle. My goal was to expose my neighbourhood to what is out there and provide them with a platform to make the change, hoping it would create a chain effect throughout the city.
At my shop, I strive to create a warm and knowledgeable place where I hope to inspire people to ask questions and vote with their dollars. This is my lucky number thirteenth year. Throughout the years, I have been a witness to the rise in awareness to the point where many sustainable options are now considered conventional and many individuals are conscious of their purchases. While I don’t pretend to have solved the world’s problems… what feeds my passion to continue creating betterment is the pride I hold in my community. They now embrace many of the issues and concerns I value and collectively, we can continue to strive for change on a global scale.
