Sherrice is an Artist, Writer, and Business Strategist. The canvas and the page are her tools for the translation of how life and nature speak to her. She hopes you are met with beauty and calm in the presence of her work.
What are you up to right now that people should know about?
Right now, every painting, poem, and piece of creativity that is falling off my fingers is an act of rebellion initiated from a space of doing the best I can to cultivate my heart space.
Life currently has me immersed in the care and healing of my family. In January, we were informed that my husband had a re-occurrence of Hodgkins Lymphoma. This has meant a complete re-prioritization of our lives. Tending this delicate and private space has put a hold on many pursuits. Strangely I am not mourning any of these lost hours, ideas, or passing passions. There is freedom in the clarity of being with what is most important. It has a gravity to it that is only felt when I slow down enough to stop wanting anything that isn’t already in my sphere. There is no room for hesitation in my creative space. There are only acts of conviction that are deliberate and on purpose. I have limited bandwidth for all that is involved in the many aspects of my life at present. My focus is on creating the most beautiful experience possible within my family, work, and creativity. There is little focus on the outcome, everything is about the actual experience of being with what is showing up. When the muse stirs, I know she needs to be fed before the next round of responsibilities land on my shoulders. I want to be present for all that is showing up for me as a mother and a wife. There is still a lot unknown. So, for now, appreciating the most mundane of moments will be my art and an act of creativity. With that being said, there is a little less art being created, little room for new clients, and a plan to be 100% with my family for the summer. At present my only pursuit will be a tan on my legs, long drawn-out hugs, and amazing food with fantastic friends.

Where do you look for inspiration?
I am not sure that I am ever really looking for inspiration, it just sort of “happens.” It is more subtle than you would expect. The lightest of touch to my skin. The intense bridge in a movement of music. The look in my dog’s eyes. The way the trees dance in the slowest of breeze. In the shadows where light comes through the window at sunset. The noise of silence. The taste of my favourite white wine. Old photographs. The smell of rain. Nature and her ever-changing seasonal landscape. The smell and texture of my daughter’s hair. Calligraphy. Curvy shapes. Colour pallets. Architecture. Sand. Water. Orgasms.
What has been the greatest shift in your career and how did you navigate it?
The shift was not in my career but in how I approached the multiple creative pursuits that existed in my body all at once. With clear priorities and mapping out a strategy, I didn’t have to choose between my work and being an artist. I could have my feet in two boats and run on water. I have the capacity for intense focus within time blocks to create and complete projects. I can do whatever I want with “my” twenty-four hours. This is what I love teaching other women. “Scrap the rule books, stop listening to the structure, create the plan that works for you and your life. Have integrity in everything you do, show up, do the work, but also carve creativity into any space you can.”
