Trisha Pitura is a creative force, mother, entrepreneur, co-owner of MiNi TiPi, and she’s definitely not a quitter.
Even though some days are tough, I push through. My three children motivate me. I’m responsible for feeding their hungry minds and showing them that hard work pays off.
I’m originally from Sudbury, Ontario, and I’m a member of Nipissing First Nation. I currently live in Gatineau, Québec with my kids and husband. Growing up, I didn’t have a lot of connection to my culture. Now I’m able to explore my identity as an Ojibwe woman through fabrics, creativity, and our business, MiNi TiPi.
Will Smith said, “Every morning you have two choices: continue to sleep with your dreams or wake up and chase them.” Everyone has ideas and dreams, but those who take risks and make those leaps to follow their dreams will be the ones to reap the rewards.
Roadblocks happen to all of us, and when you hit one, you have to remember to take a break. Do something for yourself and find ways to make yourself whole again: physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. When things get overwhelming, I have to remind myself that tomorrow can be a fresh start and that absolutely no one out there is perfect.
This work demands that I be continuously evolving and growing. Our dream is not a fixed destination. Failure has taught me that a solution can always be found with just a change in perspective. I don’t view failures as failures at all, but as a lesson that needed to be learned; a gift.
My greatest lessons so far have been to be myself, to learn to say no, and to challenge myself every single day. All of these lessons have required me to find my voice and express my thoughts, feelings, and ideas with more confidence than I ever thought possible. The elder women are my mentors and have helped me find strength and inner wisdom.
My encouragement to other entrepreneurs is to try and surround yourself with a strong network of people who have experience in business, or who just believe in you. Take time for self-care and take every opportunity presented to you, even if you have to step outside your comfort zone. Never have regrets, try everything once, and always show up!
