Jane Stoller is a Swiss-Canadian life-biz organizer whose passion is in decluttering spaces and organizing business processes. She draws inspiration from Benjamin Franklin’s words, “For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned” as she shares her passion with her clients and community.
Not only am I a compulsive organizer, but I truly believe the more productive and focused we are, the more time we have to make the world a better place.
Raised on a farm in a small town in Ontario, I manifested tiny, tidy tendencies: lining up my pet cats in order of size, stacking my books by publication date, and creating a colorful bed-top spectrum out of my stuffed animals. As I continued developing my organizing passion through school, I was stuck on what society’s image of success looked like. I was terrified to market myself as an organizer. I went on to work in the corporate world of the construction industry, and during this time I did attempt to start my organizing business, the very same business I have now, but failed.
It was 2007, before the lifestyle blogger era. I got advice from people I thought were great corporate mentors, but they told me the only reason I should do this business was if I wanted a husband, or if I was fired. Worst advice ever. Looking back now, I cringe — if I had the support that is available today, I would not have failed, and my business would be ten years old and ten times bigger!
I am grateful for the experience I got in the corporate world, but my true passion is helping women get organized and scale their own businesses. A few years ago, I finally took the leap of faith and started my business, Organized Jane, full-time. I share this openly, hoping that others will learn from my mistakes. And that is my biggest lesson from failure; share authentically so others can learn, and I can learn from others who do the same.
Take it from me: Whether your passion is a side hustle, a full-time business, an idea for a business, or even a hobby, never discount its value, or think it isn’t worthwhile.
