“I am a painter.” After more than 40 years, I can say this with certainty. I have grown into the definition.
One of the things I remember about the act of painting is that over the years it ticks all the boxes that I feel are necessary for my life: intellectual, physical, and spiritual. Making a living? Well, there’s a reason that “starving artist” is a well-established meme. But somehow, I made it to today. I have a beautiful studio and I am still able to paint and enjoy my space. I count that as success.
