With all the holiday shopping and so much going on for the season, online shopping is the new way and definitely the most convenient… but what about our local economy?
I have found so many local businesses have been able to shift to online shopping but it’s not for everyone.
I don’t know about you but there is something special about shopping in your city and getting to know your local businesses and the people that work in them.
I know that business owners do a little happy dance every time they make a sale and when they get to know the people in their communities.
Online shopping can sometimes be the cheaper route to go, however when you buy local that local money goes back into your local community.
Think of all the families you are supporting! When you shop from a friend or a family member that owns a small business, that goes directly to that person’s family. It’s pretty incredible when you stop to consider it.
Now I’m not saying don’t ever online shop because we all do, I’m just asking you to pause and be mindful when shopping.
Can I buy this local too?
Think of all the happy dances when shopping local. Here’s a small list of ideas you could look for in your community to support local.
Gift cards or products from your local
- Photographer
- Hair Stylist
- Jewelry Maker
- Makeup Artist
- Salon
- Restaurant
- Bakery
- Personal Trainer
- Fitness Studio
- Fashion Designer
- Clothing Store
- Cake & Cookie Makers
The list goes on and on!
And with all that being said, I think it’s important to look around and see who needs your help and support this year and next. Donate if you can, take baking to a neighbour who is alone – think outside the box. It’s the little things, spread kindness and love.
I think my 14 year old son said it best when I asked him what he wanted for Christmas this year. He said
“Mom, I don’t want anything. I want to give back and do something for others”
If we all could be so kind, what a better world this would be.
Happy Holidays!
