I get it. You’re in the dressing room, trying on a pair of jeans. And wait a minute, why can you barely do up your regular size?
Before you start blaming COVID inactivity, take a look at this.
Here are four pairs of jeans, all the same brand. Two are even the same style. Each one is a different size! I’m usually in the size 28-29 range, but these go from 26 to 29. It all depends on cut and in the case of denim, fabric content. The 26 and 27s are the loosest on me, and the 29s are actually kind of tight!(They weren’t when I bought them, but that’s a whole other story.)
And if we switch to another brand, another cut, another garment type, who knows what size I’ll be!
This can make buying online a bit tough. When shopping in store, go by FIT, not by size. And since we are in an era of increased online shopping, I recommend only buying from stores that take returns. And, if you’re unsure about what size to get, look at the reviews, which I find can be super helpful. You may also want to order two sizes and send one back.
If you do find that you have to wear a size larger than “usual” don’t get down about it. It’s not you, it’s the clothes!
