With so many changes we faced in 2020, brides were adjusting constantly to new rules and regulations. Now for 2021, what’s on trend for bridal makeup and hair this year…. is…. there are no rules!
As a bridal makeup artist working in the industry for over 17 years, I always recommend that my brides go for a classic bridal makeup look so that their makeup is timeless. I am seeing more intimate ceremonies this year and brides wanting a very natural makeup look……or they really want to glam it up! Either way is beautiful, with the main focus being on glowing skin.
Makeup trends for me ALWAYS is about good skin. Having a beautiful luminous skin glow for brides is perfect for both a natural and/or a glammed up makeup look!
For our beautiful bridal model Conchita, I wanted to create a bridal look for her with not only a glow, but some fresh pops of colour. I love using a dewy highlighter before applying foundation as this creates a glow from “within”. My two favourites are VIta Liberate Beauty Blur and Mac Cosmetics Strobe Cream. For some added touches of highlight I love Danessa Myricks Wet Balm. My go to for long lasting eyeshadow, especially for a bride’s long day is Danessa Myricks 24 hour colours as they are amazing to use not only on eyes, but lips and cheeks as well. AND to add some shimmering glitter to your look with fast drying and staying power Danessa Myricks ColorFix foils are the best! To create a little something special for your day, I love adding false lashes for a bridal look. I have created my own signature custom Holly Decker eyelashes that are perfect for a natural or glam look as well as to fit behind your glasses if you wear them! If you don’t have a makeup artist for your wedding day, I highly recommend a lash applicator for applying your lashes. It’s a game changer! And if you have any allergies a latex free glue is the perfect option for you. To add some pop of colour to your bridal makeup look, I love blush and my new favourite is the cream blushes from Fit Glow Beauty.
Pops of colour are so fresh and perfect for our Spring and Summer brides. I think we are all ready to wear some colour on our lips this year! For our model Conchita I used the Danessa Myricks Cream Palette which has a beautiful collection of colours.
For bridal hair trends this year, I reached out to my friend and master bridal hairstylist Rachel Stange of Free Bird Hair Design to create a beautiful bridal look and to get her expertise on bridal hair trends this year.
“I created a soft ponytail for this bridal hair look! I’m seeing a lot of effortless, lived-in styles for 2021. We’re embracing our natural texture with soft down-style waves, maybe a little romantic twist or a braid off to one side. I also think our 2021 brides are ready for some fun and to feel glammed up! Voluminous, full blowout curls are making a huge statement along with retro throwbacks styled with a modern twist that will never go out of style.”
Rachel Stange
To add a little extra length and fullness to the bridal ponytail Rachel created, and added some clip-in extensions. She also added a little extra cushion padding to the base inside of the ponytail, to ensure ample volume that lasts all day! Here are the products that Rachel used for our bridal model Conchita – Kevin Murphy Anti.Gravity Spray to curl and prep the hair. Kevin Murphy Doo.Over dry powder hairspray was used to give the pony volume and fullness. The style was finished with Kevin Murphy Session.Spray, a very light weight, flexible finishing hairspray.

AND last but not least, I reached out to these amazing businesses to showcase how this bridal look could all come together. Conchita our model from Edge Agency is wearing a gorgeous bridal gown and earrings from Unveiled Dress Co. She’s also wearing a beautiful diamond ring from GMG jewellers and holding the most beautiful bouquet of florals designed by Hawthorn Floral Atelier. Our amazing bridal look all came together at Glass and Lumber and beautiful photos created by the creative team at MJ + Co.
To all brides this year! We look forward to your wedding days for 2021.
